Cheers from London! by Yalcahoon Cheers from London! by Yalcahoon
The ponies say 'Hi' from their tour of London.

I've never been to London, but investigating for this pic was almost like a tour in its own right, but I still want to go there. I got the general idea for this pic from :iconvaum-digger:, so thanks to him for the direction. I used the panerama "Golden Jubilee Bridge by Night" by Alexandre Duret-Lutz as reference for most of the nighttime cityscape (Google Earth... [link]). Drawing this was exhausting... literally. But there was a lot to learn: incandescent lighting, drawing realistic humans, drawing structures, perspective, colors, ponies... almost too much to learn. But it was a lot of fun.

Just how little ARE my little ponies? I kinda made a quick guess. Seeing the kid next to Rarity though... although he's supposed to be happy/curious, I have a feeling that seeing her from that perspective could possibly be traumatizing. :D Maybe not, it's just a hunch.

Besides the obvious London Eye, I was able to fit in Big Ben too (Huzzah!). such a wide breadth of view was kinda difficult to draw.

EDIT: :iconshveyk: pointed out that Twilight happened to be missing some eyelashes... heh... hehe... eh... :| (dumb Yalcahoon) fixed.

Thanks! I had a fun time painting this one. I learned a lot painting it too, so even though it was only kinda half from reference I suggest that everybody try drawing from photographs/still life often (I need to do that way more often myself =P).

Looks great! But I feel that Pinkie and Rarity's places should be swapped.

Thanks! Funny you should say that, it definitely started out that way. Just thought that Rarity might not be the one who'd willingly let others stand on her head.

That's true, but maybe Spike begged long enough that she would be okay with it. ;)

Well, this is really good. You did a nice job blending cartoon ponies with a real place somewhere between a cartoon and a photo, although the humans, particularly the ones next to Rarity seem to have a tiny bit more pronounced shading. Oh, and I approve of this size. :D
By the way, isn't Twilight missing her eyelashes?

Yeah, i could have definitely done a better job with lighting/shading. I used completely different shading styles for the peoples and the ponies. Still learning.

and AH! you're RIGHT! eyelashes, :( at least that's easy enough to fix, so I'll go fix it. thanks for pointing it out. they were there but I "polished" over them. oops.

Thanks! I think I could have done better though, I see why Tsitra said "don't fall in love with your art," I did and it took forever, and I stopped being so critical, and now i'm seeing the dumb mistakes i made. :(

Thank you! So much to learn and practice = so much fun, definitely. especially that liney perspective, horizon, bridge, vanishing points :D And I'll upload that video game video eventually (it's not been forgotten), camstudio failed on me but I think I found another alternative.

Thanks! I really tried on this one. So much stuff to draw made this one take forever though, I'm not sure I can keep up that sort of quality. :dead:
